    Vooruitgangstraat 76, 1030 Schaarbeek

Les Lunes Rousses is a documentary that tells the life story of Tüncay, a woman whose life was marked by hardships from a young age. At the age of nine, she is torn away from her carefree childhood in Anatolia and brought to Belgium to care for her family. As a young woman, she is forced into marriage, which thrusts her life into a whirlwind of violence, early pregnancies, and shattered dreams.

This is a story of survival, where the theme of early marriage is passed down through four generations of women. From Anatolia to Belgium, the film reflects the shared struggle and resilience of women across generations, offering a powerful portrait of their strength and endurance.

Tülin Özdemir is a Belgian-Turkish filmmaker known for her work in documentary film. She graduated from LUCA in Brussels and continued her studies at INSAS, later earning a master’s degree from S.I.C. Her career in film began after a few years working in interior architecture.

Özdemir's filmography includes short documentaries such as Notre Mariage and Rendez-vous sur le quai, as well as the medium-length film Au-delà de l'Ararat. Her most recent work, Les Lunes Rousses, completes a trilogy focused on women's experiences over time. She is currently working on a feature film exploring the archaic connection between mothers and their children.

Özdemir on Les Lunes Rousses: "Between the Little Anatolia of Brussels and the holidays in my grandmother Hané’s village in Turkey, I was already immersed in the soil of my films: a torn world between two realities where I made the documentary Notre Mariage from an intimate story. Then, I made a road movie, Au-delà de l'Ararat, which took me to my origins in Turkey. Les Lunes Rousses, my latest feature documentary, closes the trilogy about the era of women. I am now working on a feature film whose theme is the archaic bond with the mother."

After the film screening, there will be a discussion with the filmmaker, moderated by Sarah Kaerts.

Sarah Kaerts studied social-cultural work, religion, anthropology, and dance therapy, and has over ten years of experience in participatory work around diversity. She is currently a staff member at Werkplaats immaterieel erfgoed, an organization working with the UNESCO-2003 convention. In the past, she traveled to all corners of Turkey. On one of those trips, she visited Tülin during the filming of Les Lunes Rousses.
